Society has diagnosed Christians with Apocalyptic Fever. Many claim that Christians have been expecting the end of the world for the past 2,000 years. However, there are only two clear moments in Christian history when the majority of believers expected that Christ would return, in the first century and now.
Jesus said, "Behold, I am coming soon" (Revelation 22:7a). These words are repeated several times throughout the Bible. The first century church expected the Second Coming of Christ in their lifetime.
But, the Bible also says, "But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day (2 Peter 3:8)." The Apostle Peter wrote this in the context of the Second Coming. Although believers expected Christ to return in their day, they were reminded that God lives outside the dimension of time.
For the first time since 100 A.D., the majority of Christians around the world believe that the end of the world is imminent. Jesus expected that they know this based on the fulfillment of Biblical prophecy. Today Bible prophecies are being fulfilled. Any rational person can trace the evidence... (to be continued)
