Honey I'm home

Eight containers of honey stand on our living room floor. Each container weighs seven pounds, totaling fifty-six pounds of honey. Earlier today I heard my mom call out to my brother saying, "David, Grandma's wondering if you like bitter honey."

We love all sorts of honey: raw, bitter, crystallized, smooth, runny, granulated, sweet. Crystallized honey is the most fun. Within a couple days, after the bees and bears have had their share, you have to creep your spoon deep into the container of crystallized honey (or hold the container upside down and let the honey crawl towards you). The pointer finger and thumb grip the end of the spoon. The syrupy container walls slick back knuckle hair. The rim lips lick the wrist and forearm.

After a spoonful of honey is shoveled out, remember to lick your hand, or else, the grizzly will mistake it for a lollipop.
